Booking flights

1. We advise that you book your flight directly from an airline. Booking through a travel website may be cheaper; however, if any issues arise (i.e delays, cancellations, etc) and your ticket was purchased through a travel website, you will not be able to access customer service support directly from the airline at the airport.

2. The best option is booking a direct flight to Italy. The second best option is to book a flight with a layover on the same continent you are flying from. This will ensure that you don't go through customs half way through your journey and decreases the risk of missing your connecting flight. Should you book a flight with a layover in a different continent than where you are flying from, please make sure to have at least two and a half hours for your layover. You may be asked to get your luggage, go through customs, and recheck your bags.

Examples:

- If flying from the US to Italy, try and transfer on the East Coast, not in Europe.

- If flying back to the US from Italy, try and transfer in Europe, not the US.

Planning and packing

1. If your passport expires within the next year, please make sure to renew.

2. Your cell phone will work in Italy, but there may be additional charges from your provider. Please check ahead of time on international plans and pricing since international data can be very expensive if not included in your cell phone plan.

3. Download Google Maps for driving directions. Apple Maps is not reliable in this area. If traveling in bigger Italian cities, you can use the transportation option on Google Maps for help planning bus or train routes.

4. Credit and debit cards are accepted at most locations. Do be aware that your card may have a foreign transaction fee. Most ATMs allow you to withdraw cash using your Debit card however, there may be a max withdrawal limit of 300-500 Euros per day.

5. Be sure to pack a EU to US power adapter for your electronics.

6. Do note that high powered items, such as hair dryers, need to have a 240 volt option otherwise they will not work. Much to Angie's sadness, the Dyson air wrap does not work in Italy.
